REMO

Remote patient-targeted health monitoring to reduce clinical workload

Project description

The healthcare system is facing many challenges: skills shortages and demographic change towards an ageing (multimorbid) society will further increase the need for medical and nursing care, while at the same time the availability of specialists will decrease. The health workforce crisis in Europe is no longer a looming threat – it is here and now. Moving healthcare, usually handled at a doctor's office or even the hospital, to a patient’s home leads to better monitoring and patient compliance, reduces costs and frees up healthcare facilities for critical needs. REMO will stimulate the shift of care from hospital to home, for chronic care it will prevent hospitalization, and for transitional care it will shorten hospitalization. The project will innovate continuous and unobtrusive monitoring in professional healthcare and provide support to clinicians, patients in their treatment and optimal recovery at home by providing the right information at the right time for the right person. In REMO five clinical use cases (based on 3 common technological building blocks) will drive the project. The targeted innovation areas are: - Data system and sensors, - Trustworthy algorithms, - Clinical workflow integration and remote coaching. The consortium brings together a complete ecosystem with multiple partners to commercialize the project’s results in the proposed solution directions and to benefit from the collaboration with knowledge institutes. In addition to this, clinical experts are either partner in the project or closely linked to the project, ensuring that end user needs are appropriately addressed in new products, features and services.
