The Catharina Hospital Eindhoven (CAT) is a large clinical and teaching medical center hospital in the Eindhoven area specialized in cardiovascular disease, obesity and oncology and serves as tertiary referral center in several areas. This top-clinical position was achieved by the traditional strong focus on innovation and academic research. Several innovations developed within the CAT are now widely implemented in clinical practice. The hospital has a large operation complex with hybrid interventions suits, intensive care unit and a cardiovascular intervention centre (cardiac surgery, percutaneous coronary interventions, ablation, pacemaker implantations) and a specialized cancer institute with a large outpatient population. Medical specialists of Catharina Hospital are actively involved in development of innovative techniques and strategies that help to improve current healthcare practice. To that end, the departments of Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Intensive care, (Cardiothoracic) surgery and laboratory service participate in many international trials and actively contribute to the development of diagnostic devices and clinical decision support systems.
