VicarVision

VicarVision is an R&D-focused AI company based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, specialising in human behavior recognition since 2001. As part of the SMR-groep, a privately-owned group of artificial intelligence companies, VicarVision develops advanced computer vision technology with a strong focus on facial expression analysis and multimodal behavioral AI.   

In 2007, VicarVision introduced FaceReader, the first commercially available tool capable of evaluating facial expressions and facial action units in real time. Today, FaceReader is distributed and used in over 1000 universities and research institutes worldwide.    

Over the years, VicarVision has received numerous national and international research grants (e.g., H2020, Eurostars, AAL) and continues to invest heavily in research and development of cutting-edge computer vision technology, with an emphasis on multimodal analysis of human behavior. Beyond facial expression recognition, the company develops AI-driven methods for analysing eye movements, voice characteristics (e.g., valence and arousal from prosody), and physiological signals such as heart rate, heart rate variability, and breathing rate.
