Mälardalen University (abbreviated MDU) is one of Sweden’s large institutes of higher education. The University is characterised by its close cooperation with companies and with the public a sector in the region and by its distinct environmental profile.
ES is the foremost research environment at MDU, and the leading academic environment in Sweden in research related to embedded systems.
Research at ES is organised in 16 mutually supportive cooperating groups that focus on the following six research areas: Dependable systems, Real-time systems, Robotics and avionics, Sensor systems and health, Software engineering, and Verification and validation. Well-aligned with the ES research is its comprehensive educational offering, including education and degree programs at all levels, as well as continued education targeting the work force. Our undergraduate programs include Computer Science and Computer Networks and Communications. Covering both basic and advanced cycles, we offer two Masters of Science in engineering programs in Robotics and in Dependable Aerospace Systems. In addition, we offer two international master programs in Software Engineering and Intelligent Embedded Systems. In recent years, ES has hosted several educational projects that develop courses targeting working professionals, including PROMPT which was awarded the European Digital Skills Award 2016.
The ES research environment includes 24 full professors, 12 visiting/adjunct professors, 11 associate professors, over 60 additional senior researchers and, over 100 PhD students in computer science and electronics.
