GPS as time sync source for multi-GW time slotted channel hopping networks

Project
19045 STACK
Type
New system
Description

Today's time slotted channel hopping mesh networks use one absolute time source. To keep current consumption low accurate time is required. Time becomes less accurate for each hop in a mesh network, and eventually breaks down. One could just add more absolute time sources, but they need to be synchronised somehow. We solve this by using the GPS standards' one pulse per second timing source. This enables having multiple gateways, which are both routing end points, and time sources; increasing performance and adds redundancy to an otherwise vulnerable single point of failure.

Technical features

Enables time synchronization among multiple distributed gateways. Enables support for algorithms that require time synchronization such as multiple sink that can be used to increase performance and adds redundancy to an otherwise vulnerable single point of failure.
