Fraunhofer ENAS

Fraunhofer Research Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS is one of the 80 institutes of the Fraunhofer Society, the largest non-profit organisation for applied research in Europe. Fraunhofer ENAS is located in Chemnitz. It focuses on research and development of smart cyber physical systems with partners in Germany and Europe. The Micro Materials Center at Fraunhofer ENAS has over 30 years of experience in evaluating and optimising reliability and functional safety of complex hardware systems by combining advanced multi-field simulations with latest experimental methods.

Fraunhofer ENAS is developing ultra-compact models capable describing electro-thermo-mechanical behavior of high-tech systems. We:

  • develop AI-based cascaded compact digital twins capable of predicting key health parameters of complex systems in their field use based on training data from nonlinear, multi-field finite element analysis validated by experiments,
verify and validate the 'compact digital twins' by real-world data obtained from the project partners.

Fraunhofer ENAS will use the full expertise of its 20+ people reliability research group and its complete set of infrastructure and equipment for the intended reliability research on electronic and mechatronic systems:

  • High performance computer workstations with latest modeling and simulation software packages.
  • Labs for stress tests, material characterisation, and physical failure analysis.
