Bordeaux 1 University is ranked among the best in France, with 45 research laboratories, 30 of which have a close association with the CNRS, others with INRA (5), the Ministry of Culture (2), INSERM (1) and several joint or associated laboratories involving other bodies or companies: CEA, SNECMA, SMURFIT, CEMAGREF, IFREMER, INRIA, TOTAL-ELF-FINA. With almost 1,000 research workers (275 with the CNRS) and approximately 600 doctoral students, our research activities are well supported at regional, national and European levels, and cover several major disciplines: pure and applied mathematics, computer science, physics and engineering science, chemistry, biological sciences, earth sciences and oceanography, anthropology and prehistory.
