Telenor R&I

Telenor R&I is the corporate research and innovation department of Telenor, the Norwegian incumbent. Telenor is the leading provider of telecommunication, data and media communication services in Norway. Internationally, Telenor is an active investor within mobile, Internet, and TV distribution. Telenor runs fixed, mobile and broadcast operations in the Nordic countries, and extensive mobile operations in several other countries in Europe and Asia. In September 2006 Telenor reached its mobile customer no 100 million as summed up in partly or wholly owned mobile companies. Telenor is at present (2006) also one of the most successful telcos in the stock market. Telenor has a total of 32 000 employees of which 21 000 are employed in companies outside Norway..
The R&I department carries out research and research based innovation within present an potentially new business areas for Telenor. The current staff is about 210 persons, working in units located at Fornebu (Telenor headquarters), Tromsø, and Trondheim, Telenor R&I has a long tradition for participation in international as well as national research projects, and collaborate with colleges and universities, other telecommunications companies and user environments. At present Telenor R&I is involved in 15 projects in the EU IST programme and Eureka. Telenor is also actively involved in standardization work, e.g. within ETSI, ITU, IETF and 3GPP.
