Spain has been active in ITEA since the beginning with participation already in the first Call of ITEA 1 that opened in 1998. Based on consistent support by the Spanish Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) and by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism (MINETUR), more than 200 Spanish companies have become involved in ITEA projects and the total Spanish participation in terms of effort has steadily ranked in the top ten of involved countries.

Indra became involved in ITEA during the second ITEA 1 Call (1999) and has been active in several projects since then, being the third largest participating Spanish organisation in terms of effort. Indra decided to submit proposals to ITEA when there was a need for more specific and fast time-to-market deployments. The main reference for Indra in ITEA is the OPEES project (2009 – Oct 2012) that provides a framework of tools for developing embedded software for aeronautic technologies. Two important topics for Indra in the last years were tackled during the ITEA projects NEMO&CODED, IMPONET and DiCoMa: Big Data technologies and real-time data integration platforms.
