Camera-based solution from ViNotion can be used to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus

Many countries have introduced social distancing measures to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Whenever possible, people should keep 1.5m (6 feet) away from each other. The rules will be strictly enforced and those who ignore them can get a fine. But how can we monitor and maintain these recommendations? High-tech company ViNotion from Eindhoven offers a solution: Smart cameras that identify and label distances between people.

The smart camera technology from Dutch specialised high-tech company ViNotion can help organisations to maintain the 1.5m (6 feet) distance between people. Their ViSense CrowdDynamics is a camera-based solution to observe people in streets, squares and large spaces with AI and can be easily installed on an existing camera network.

Deployment and features

Smart software analyses the motion of people via the camera and measures the distance between people in a fraction of a second. The distance can be accurately calculated from different viewing angles. The camera solution is suitable for supermarkets, airports, hospitals, clinics, train stations, town halls, prisons, etc. Images are processed anonymously with respect for privacy regulations.

Instances detected where distancing measures are violated will be flagged and will warn people to keep the distance of at least 1.5m. Detected violations can trigger the following actions:

Fighting the virus with technology

Most of the countries now facing COVID-19 outbreaks are relying on social-distancing policies and getting people to stay home which is a tough task. Governments and other organisations are rushing to embrace sophisticated surveillance tools. New tech tools very well might end up playing a big role in fighting the virus now and in the future.

Proven track record of efficient video surveillance

ViNotion has already a proven track record of efficient video surveillance. ViNotion is currently involved in the ITEA SMART project for deployment of its AI sensors in Eindhoven for real-time detailed data collection about road traffic (pedestrians, cyclists, cars), its behaviour, interaction and safety. Through this versatile information traffic control can be optimized to improve the throughput and reduce CO2 emission. ViNotion also participated in the ITEA project APPS where the technology has been applied for the managing vessel traffic in large harbour ports. The solution can be used to overcome the limitations of radar tracking and to give visual information such as vessel classification to improve the situational awareness for traffic control operators. Furthermore, ViNotion developed AI technology for collecting the position and behaviour of individuals and vehicles to signal threatening situations in the ITEA project PS-CRIMSON with the aim to improve the public safety.

About ViNotion

ViNotion delivers products and services for crowd analysis and traffic analysis with intelligent video camera systems. This includes new emerging technologies based on optical sensors in combination with artificial intelligence (AI) that provide high value information such as traffic behaviour, near-incidents, waiting times, queue lengths, incidents, congestion, etc.
