ITEA 2 Symposium demonstrates tangible results in embedded software

The Mériden Montparnasse was the venue for the annual symposium of the EUREKA Cluster ITEA 2 in the field of embedded software, opened by French Minister for Industry François Loos.

More than 400 people attended presentations and the accompanying project exhibition, where the impact of ITEA 2-led R&D in terms of market-ready industrial innovation was clearly demonstrated. This R&D is boosting European competitiveness in a wide range of industries. ITEA 2 will be also be involved in the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), specifically through its proposed European Technology Platforms (ETPs) ARTEMIS, NESSI, ENIAC and E-Mobility and the resulting Joint Technology Initatives (JTIs).

“ITEA 2 is a highly successful follow-on to ITEA — and it’s continuing to grow,” says Chairman Rudolf Hagenmüller. “This success is thanks to the strength of participants in crucial European application domains, such as aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, medical systems, healthcare and telecommunications.”

“The continued growth of ITEA 2 shows,” Hagenmüller continued, “that Europe can compete with fast-growing economies such as China and India, as well as better being a stronger player against the USA and Japan.”

“The technical challenges for ITEA 2, and the way to achieve success as expressed in the ITEA 2 roadmap have been confirmed by several recent studies including the AHO Group report on creating an innovative Europe,” adds Vice-Chairman Gérard Roucairol.

The annual ITEA achievement award was given to project SIRENA that delivered the first implementation of device profiles for web services (DPWS) standard, moving web-services technology from business-to-business down to machine-tomachine level. The project convincingly demonstrated that it could combine research excellence with innovation, delivering tangible results of high industrial relevance.
