Fifth ITEA call for Project Outlines

ITEA (Information Technology for European Advancement) is the premier co-operative software R&D programme in Europe. We support coordinated national funding submissions within the EUREKA framework. More than 40 projects are currently under way, involving researchers from 19 countries and mobilising over 5,400 person-years. Topics range from software for product line engineering and automotive platforms to healthcare systems.

ITEA-labelled projects, which are industry-driven, involve complementary R&D efforts from at least two companies in two different countries, according to the rules of EUREKA. However, the number of industrial partners, both in terms of technology development and lead users, is usually higher. Small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) as well as public research institutes and universities are often involved.

The ITEA calls for projects are organised in a two-step procedure. In the first, pre-labelling step, short Project Outlines (POs) should be submitted. If the pre-labelling step is successful, Full Project Proposals (FPPs) are required. These are then evaluated and, if approved, receive the final ITEA Label.

The fifth ITEA call for Project Outlines will be launched on 15 January 2002 and will close on 12 April 2002.

This call will cover five domains (home, enterprise, mobile, intermediation services & infrastructures, and complex system engineering) and promote progress in twelve categories of enabling technologies (content capture, creation & authoring, content representation, data & content management, network transport & protocols, network & distributed management, resource management, security, human system interaction, system engineering, software engineering, and engineering process support) [Reference: ITEA Technology Roadmap].

A Project Outline preparation session will be held on 15 and 16 January 2002. More detailed information about this session and the call itself will be available from 15 December 2001 on our website: http://www.itea-office.org/main_projectcalls.htm. Interested parties can find useful information here, such as contact details for the various national Public Authorities that support and co-ordinate the funding of ITEA projects. All 31 countries in the EUREKA framework can provide financial support to ITEA projects. To find out about local support rules and opportunities, those interested should get in touch with their local Public Authority.
