Euskaltel, founded in 1995, is the mobile phone operator and CATV operator of the Basque Country (Spain). Its stakeholders belong to the financial world, telecommunications, public services and local industry. The initial goal of Euskaltel was to become the global telecommunication operator of the Basque Country. Today, the company is offering a comprehensive portfolio of product and services to residential users and companies in particular: landline telephone connections; mobile telephone connections:
GSM/UMTS/HScPA, (MVNO); interactive service TV over the CATV network; High speed Internet access (cable modem, ADSL); wireless access to high speed Internet (WiFi/WiMAX); data services (frame relay, leased lines, ATM); advanced services (IP-VPN, Housing,...)
The deployment of their own network infrastructure is part of the Euskaltel strategy. As a result of that, the company has deployed their fixed network (fiber optics and cable) and the access wireless network (Wi-Fi, WiMAX).
In 2006 Euskaltel become an independent mobile network operator. To this end, the company has
adopted the status of full Mobile Virtual Network Operator (Full MVNO) having its own mobile backbone network infrastructure.
