The Lely Group headquarter is located in Maassluis (NL) and was founded by the brothers Cornelis and Arij van der Lely. The invention of the finger wheel rake in 1948 officially put Lely on the map as a developer of innovative agricultural solutions. By inventing products like the Lely fertilizer (1958) and Lelyterra harrow (1968) the brothers changed the traditional approach to agriculture in the following years. During the subsequent managing period of Olaf van der Lely, Lely shifted its attention to farming and invested in robot technology, which led to the Lely Astronaut robotic milking system (1992). In 2004 Olaf’s younger brother, Alexander van der Lely became CEO.
