Resilient Operations for Industrial Processes

Project description

As industrial plants become increasingly autonomous, the role of human operators is shifting from routine supervision to overseeing multiple facilities and focusing on strategic tasks such as production planning. Despite this evolution, operator intervention remains critical in rare, high-stake situations where automation falls short. However, in such moments, operators may lack immediate situational awareness and hands-on troubleshooting experience, due to reduced continuous engagement and fewer manual tasks. These conditions, coupled with high cognitive demands, create significant pressure to act swiftly and effectively. To address this challenge, we propose to explore AI-driven methods to support operators during critical events, focusing on intelligent agents capable of rapid contextualization, reasoning, and dynamic HMI adaptation to operators’ need with better human-AI-Automation collaboration
