BE Faster

Building Energy Flexibility at Scale for Trading and Earning of Revenues

Project description

Today, building owners face a fragmented landscape when participating in flexibility markets. To access revenue opportunities, they must register separately with multiple platforms, each with its own bidding processes, technical requirements, and settlement procedures. BE Faster brings countries closer to Net Zero by creating a scalable flexibility trading platform enabling a smarter use of data and controls to reduce energy wastage and support grid supply-demand balancing. The solution defines the Net-Zero pathway for organisations by looking at carbon grid intensity as a signal for trading. BE Faster provides novel algorithms for trading based on several parameters identified using digital twins. The ecosystem will be accessible using open-source code and templates and standards developed will be used to roll out the solution to partner countries. The need to integrate with existing processes and systems to create Virtual Power Plants at scale and trade with energy and flexibility markets (local or national) was the driving factor for the project. It became apparent that the use of existing non-critical energy using assets such as Air Handling Units, Refrigeration, Cooling, Electric Heating, ASHPs was of importance. We remove this barrier to entry, particularly for organisations managing multiple sites. Our platform provides a single point of integration for energy assets, handling end-to-end connectivity through industry-standard protocols. Once connected, your assets can participate across multiple flexibility markets simultaneously, without the need for separate registrations, bidding interfaces, or reconciliation processes. To aid the decision-making process, we are developing a series of digital twin models to identify the kW flexibility, run rate of the flexibility event, and the recovery period. In the UK alone, between 10-12 GW of Flexibility is needed by 2030. In short, we are taking the complexity out of energy and flexibility markets, making it easier to trade at scale. Finally, to achieve carbon savings, we will have a separate carbon flex software-as-a-service product only. This can be used globally.
