ORCHESTRA
Grid Orchestration Tool-set for Proactive Energy Management
Project description
The rapid adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and the integration of variable renewable energy sources are posing significant challenges to grid stability due to infrastructure limitations and the underutilization of local energy resources. Industries, companies, and consumers struggle to adapt to dynamic tariffs and lack tools to monetize energy flexibility, leading to inefficiencies and grid strain. Addressing these challenges, the ORCHESTRA project proposes an innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven grid orchestration toolset designed to proactively manage and interconnect IT solutions for managing local energy resources—such as EV chargers, smart devices, industrial loads, and Battery Energy Storage Systems, VPPs (Virtual Power Plants) and the existing energy flexibility solutions.
Beyond the project's immediate scope, the overall objective of ORCHESTRA is to revolutionize energy management by establishing a sustainable, intelligent energy ecosystem that maximizes the utilization of distributed energy resources, facilitates the transition to renewable energy, and contributes to global carbon reduction goals. Throughout the project, key results will include the development of an AI-driven grid orchestration platform, enabling industries and communities to respond effectively to dynamic tariffs, and implementation of scalable battery aggregation systems forming VPPs for coordinated energy management and advanced grid services.
The potential impact on the energy value chain is substantial, offering enhanced grid stability, optimized use of existing infrastructure, and new revenue streams for stakeholders through flexible energy management and trading services.
