Multicommunicator (working name) — multi-radio gateway for off-network use
- Project
- 22007 Sa4CPS
- Type
- New product
- Description
The Multicommunicator (working name, final name to be decided) is a handheld multi-radio gateway connecting hunters and dogs beyond cellular coverage. It receives data from Natlink's LoRa trackers, forwards it to the server and relays commands back. It also extends cellular connectivity to the user's phone and serves as a power bank.
Its optimised antenna and transmitter design gives radio performance as high as legally allowed. Built for outdoor use, IP67 waterproof and shock-resistant, it is mounted outside a car window or clipped to a backpack or clothing, high and away from the body. A waterproof power connector also allows fixed mast or tree installation.
In field tests it bridged 89% of the phone's coverage gaps and extended coverage by about 1.5 km, and its roaming SIM works where the phone's cannot. European patent pending.
Natlink developed it using technologies and designs from Sa4CPS work packages: requirements and architecture (WP2), device and tracker prototypes (WP3), secure telematics protocol and digital twin (WP4), security and secure firmware update (WP5), and demonstrations (WP6). Mass production is planned for early 2027; the platform is also intended for other products.
