ITEA Cluster to build on success with follow-up programme ITEA 2

The EUREKA ITEA Cluster is today the leading trans-national European co-operative R&D programme in software-intensive systems. ITEA 2 now offers the crucial next step to maintain the momentum established by ITEA, building firmly on its success and lessons in a dramatically changing world.

Software is the key to the digital revolution that is an integral part of our industrial and societal future. The ITEA programme, launched in 1998 and running to end 2008, has essentially put Europe back on the map in the emerging 'embedded intelligence' revolution. Responding to new challenges in the many key sectors affected, ITEA 2 will maintain the successful principal vision of ITEA, updated to the new global context, 'for Europe to maintain leadership in this new era of embedded Software-intensive Systems and Services building on key European strength and industries'.

The ITEA board presented the proposals for ITEA 2 to the EUREKA High Level Group in Maastricht last week and will be making fuller representations to the European Public Authorities in September.
