ITEA Technology webinar - Cyber-Physical-Metaverse
What the Cloud was to IT, the Cyber-Physical-Metaverse will be to your business
18 July 2025 | 11:00-12:00 CEST
The integration of pioneering technologies from various ICT domains, including those currently available and those envisioned for the near future, will revolutionise the way the real and virtual worlds interact. When the Internet, and its technological basis formed out of communication, computing and operation, evolves beyond its current ‘best effort’ capabilities into a reliable, distributed system, the consequences will be significant. Interactions between actors like humans, machines, buildings, roads and services in the real world - and their virtual counterparts (e.g., digital twins, the metaverse, sensor data) - will become seamless, secure, predictable, and capable of occurring in (application-relevant) real time. We refer to this transformative concept as the 'Cyber-Physical-Metaverse'. Whereas the development of cloud services primarily disrupted the IT sector, the emergence of the Cyber-Physical-Metaverse will have a disruptive impact across all domains.
To get a better understanding of the concept, a reflection on the interest in the topic and to understand what topics could be further discussed in more detail in the future, we organised the ITEA Technology webinar on the Cyber-Physical-Metaverse on 18 July from 11:00 to 12:00 CEST. During this session, technology experts from Bosch, Siemens and ITEA shared their insights and provided food for thought for the ITEA Community to see how it could impact them in the future.
Agenda
The session featured:
- Introduction to Cyber-Physical-Metaverse by Dirk Elias from ITEA
- Reliable Distributed Systems - Technological Backbone for the Cyber-Physical-Metaverse by Dirk Ziegenbein and Arne Hamann from Bosch
- Using web technologies to connect the real to the digital world by Dominik Tacke and Sebastian Käbisch from Siemens
- Q&A with the audience

Q&A
Q&A
Arne Hamann: In private settings there TSN is definitely of high interest. In public settings you might look into tech like L4S... but the tech space is very large.
One of the runtimes (wasmedge) extends it for LLM use cases.
For the deeply embedded focus, this might not be applicable but the WASM technology is versatile and deployable across the compute continuum.
Neural Network proposal for WASI. Contribute to WebAssembly/wasi-nn development by creating an account on GitHub.
Topics for future webinars
With the input provided during the first webinar, we will work on a follow-up session, to dive deeper into the topics of interest of the audience. If you have a specific topic, that you would like to discuss more in-depth, please feel free to share that with us as well via email at info@itea4.org.
