Deployment of Air Quality Sensor Infrastructure in NETAŞ-Orhanli Manufacturing Facility
- Project
- 21020 SOCFAI
- Type
- New service
- Description
Within the SOCFAI project, a similar air quality sensor infrastructure has been successfully adapted and deployed at the NETAŞ Orhanlı manufacturing facility as a service. The system integrates LoRaWAN-based gateways with the NETAŞ IoT platform (ION), enabling seamless communication and real-time monitoring. Currently, temperature and humidity data are collected from different production areas, supporting smart manufacturing operations and providing a concrete demonstration of SOCFAI results in an industrial setting.

- IoT, Data Analytics and Visualization, Industrial Digitalization
- Technical features
The system is built on a scalable IoT data pipeline integrating LoRaWAN-based sensor infrastructure with modern streaming and observability technologies. Key technical features include:
- LoRaWAN gateway-based communication enabling low-power, wide-area data collection from distributed industrial sensors
- MQTT protocol for lightweight, real-time data transmission from edge devices to the backend infrastructure
- Apache Kafka-based streaming architecture for high-throughput, fault-tolerant data ingestion and processing
- Elastic database for efficient storage, indexing, and querying of time-series sensor data
- Grafana dashboards for real-time visualization, monitoring, and analytics of environmental data (temperature, humidity)
- End-to-end data pipeline supporting real-time processing, scalability, and extensibility for additional sensor types and industrial use cases
- Modular and interoperable architecture enabling seamless integration with the NETAŞ IoT platform (ION)
- Integration constraints
he solution requires LoRaWAN-compatible sensors and gateway infrastructure, with MQTT support for data transmission. Integration depends on a streaming platform (e.g., Apache Kafka) for data ingestion and an Elastic-based storage layer (or any other database platforms) for indexing and querying. Visualization is provided via Grafana dashboards. The system can be deployed on cloud or on-premise environments and requires network connectivity between IoT devices, messaging broker, and backend services. Compatibility with REST APIs or platform-specific interfaces (e.g., NETAŞ ION) is necessary for seamless integration.
- Targeted customer(s)
The primary target customers are manufacturing companies and industrial facility operators seeking to enhance their environmental monitoring and smart factory capabilities. The solution is particularly relevant for sectors such as electronics manufacturing, automotive, and heavy industry, where real-time monitoring of environmental conditions (e.g., temperature and humidity) is critical for operational efficiency and product quality. In addition, the solution can be offered to system integrators and IoT solution providers as a value-added service or modular component. Potential business partners include companies specializing in industrial IoT integration, cloud platforms, and data analytics, who can extend the system with advanced analytics, AI-based insights, or domain-specific applications.
- Conditions for reuse
The solution can be reused as a modular IoT service architecture, subject to integration with compatible hardware (LoRaWAN sensors and gateways) and supporting software components (MQTT, Kafka, Elastic, Grafana).
The core components can be adapted and deployed in different industrial environments, either on-premise or in cloud infrastructures. Reuse may require configuration and customization based on specific operational requirements, target platforms, and data processing needs.
Licensing and usage conditions depend on the integration context: proprietary components such as the NETAŞ IoT platform (ION) are subject to internal or commercial agreements, while open-source components (e.g., Kafka, Elastic, Grafana) follow their respective licensing terms. Collaboration with system integrators or solution providers may be required for full-scale deployment and customization.
