Hochschule Bielefeld - University of Applied Sciences and Arts
At the department of mathematics at University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld (FHBI) the rapid development of information technology has opened up new fields of work for application-oriented mathematicians. The ability of applied mathematicians to analyse (not only) mathematical problems thoroughly and objectively and to find solutions with the help of mathematical methods is in high demand with businesses, banks, insurance companies and development departments of companies. Bielefeld was the first University of Applied Sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, to establish mathematics as an independent degree with study focusing on engineering, economics, and computer science. Theory and practice are not separated: numerical methods and the necessary computer skills are integrated into the research and teaching of mathematical theory.
