University Hospital Bonn

The University Hospital Bonn is one of the maximum care providers in North Rhine-Westphalia. In the Clinic and Polyclinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Alexandra Philipsen, the diagnosis and treatment of the entire spectrum of mental illnesses from young to old age is provided. The clinic is involved in various BMBF-funded research networks and cross-sectional projects on mental illnesses (ESPRIT FKZ 01EE1407I; ESCAlife FKZ 01EE1408D, http://fzpe.de), including the BMBF-project PRECISE (FKZ 13GW0535A) that clinically validates the Clinical Decision Support System PGXperts for patients with depression. Moreover, collaborative projects for the treatment of ADHD in adulthood using new and individualized medical technology (AwareMe, FKZ 16SV7782, http://www.awareme.de; ATTENTION, FKZ 13GW0273E, http://www.attention-projekt.de) are carried out. Likewise, a European grant application (PSY-PGx) within the context of Horizon 2020 has received funding (Prof. Philipsen, Prof. Nöthen, Head of the Inst. of Human Genetics). Moreover, in accordance with the new scientific focus in the field of digital medicine, a virtual reality laboratory (VR) has been set up since 2018, in which innovative diagnostic possibilities and therapeutic interventions are examined through computer-generated simulations of immersive and interactive environments (http://www.ukbonn.de/virtual-reality, headed by Dr. Braun). Due to the close interlinking with the basic science-oriented institutes such as Life & Brain Center and the in-house molecular laboratory for stress-related diseases, the University Hospital Bonn offers ideal conditions to also be able to specifically examine predictive questions about the response to therapies.
