University of Cairo
Cairo University is the leading and the largest institute of higher education in Egypt. The university was officially inaugurated in 1908. Currently, Cairo University includes 23 Faculties and Institutes serving about 155,000 students with 3,158 faculty members, 2,361 assisting staff and 12,233 employees. The Faculty of Engineering in Cairo University dates back to the early 19th century. Currently, the faculty consists of fourteen departments, with the number of faculty members approaching 1000, and the number of under-graduate students about 14000. The number of M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees awarded during 2005/2006 reached nearly 240. The Faculty of Engineering is probably the best engineering school in the nation. This is manifested in the outstanding quality of the graduates, which the faculty strives to improve. The Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering has 70 faculty members and grants 400-450 BSc, 20-40 MSc, and 5-15 PhD degrees annually.
