The ITEA 2 project RECONSURVE received the Korea EUREKA Day Award
The ITEA 2 project RECONSURVE (Reconfigurable Surveillance System with Communicating Smart Sensors) received the Korea EUREKA Day Award in recognition of developing the most innovative and commercially viable EUREKA project, successfully engaging in transnational industrial R&D and furthering Korean-European collaboration. The award was presented by the president of the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) Dr. Yong-Geun Kim to Dr. Cengiz Erbas, the coordinator of the RECONSURVE project, on May 28, 2013 at the Korea EUREKA Day in Istanbul.
The RECONSURVE project is carried out by a consortium consisting of partners from Turkey, France and Korea. The project developed a complete maritime surveillance system with smart sensor data processing, situational awareness, the ability to use several platforms with a variety of sensor types and advanced algorithm-based capabilities for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and thermal cameras. The ITEA 2 project did not develop yet another surveillance system, but rather created interfaces among existing systems across domains and borders through an interoperability framework. The 4-year project, which will finish in 2014, will validate its operational principles from an end user’s perspective with the participation of the Turkish Coast Guard Command.
