When seconds matter: AI to support safety in chemical work areas

In chemical plants, workers handle flammable and toxic solvents every day, and a small leak can become dangerous within minutes. How can AI help monitor risks and support workers when conditions change?

Within the ITEA CAPE project, Korean partners IDB, SmartCore and KAIST have developed the worker-centric Smart Working Area (SWA) platform to create safer and smarter working environments tailored to individual workers.

By bringing together plant knowledge, sensor data and AI, SWA uses verified information about workers, equipment, chemicals and safety limits to assess changing conditions. It can identify emerging risks and provide situation-specific, step-by-step guidance based on approved safety procedures.

How SWA achieved this is clearly demonstrated in this video. Check it out now!
